Father George Savas
Fr. George Savas was born and raised in Chicago, IL and grew up in the St. Nicholas parish in Oaklawn, IL. Fr. George graduated Holy Cross Seminary in Brookline, MA in 1984 with a Masters in Divinity. Ordained to the Diaconate on November 6, 1983, he was ordained to the Holy Priesthood on May 18th of 1984. He was then elevated to Stavrophoro Economou in 1996 by Bishop Maximos and in 2001 was elevated to Protopresbyter by Metropolitan Nicholas.
Throughout his priesthood, Fr. George has faithfully served many parishes, leaving lasting marks of growth and love with each parish. His first assignment was to the Cathedral in Atlanta where he began ministry under Fr. Homer Goumenis of late. He then was assigned to the parish of St. Andrew in South Bend, IN and then the Holy Trinity Church in Charleston, SC. Fr. George was later assigned the mission parish of the Holy Spirit in Rochester, NY, the Assumption Cathedral in St. Claire Shores, MI, and then to St. Demetrios in Daytona Beach, FL. As of May 2008, he has been assigned Executive Director of the Diakonia Center of the Atlanta Metropolis by Metropolitan Alexios.
Fr. George has always been strong in his ministries in his parishes, from starting youth groups in the churches, extending community service efforts, creating summer camps, to disaster relief teams. Fr. George has always dedicated himself to the wellbeing of his parishes and his communities. His services further extend to positions including the Alumni Board of Holy Cross, the St. Photios Shrine Board in St. Augustine, FL, and being a trained police chaplain in both Charleston, SC and Daytona Beach, FL, amongst other great positions. He was also honored by the St. Herman Theological Seminary with a certificate of Associate Alumnus in May 2006.
